Animal part III – Best for Last

3 Feb

Before foie gras was banned on the menu, I made sure to go back and have this dish. I must have had it about 3 times if not more. It was one of the best things on the menu. I’d like to be hopeful that one day it will return (legally of course).

foie gras, biscuit, maple sausage gravy biscuit, maple sausage gravy

Italian in Downtown, LA @BestiaDTLA

I work, breathe, and eat in Downtown, Los Angeles. Bestia just popped up on my radar and I was determined to try it. They are usually booked but I found a reservation for 2 a little later in the night.

Here’s a list of what we ordered – I recommend them all…

*(image) Midollo al Forno a Legna
roasted marrow bone. porcini breadcrumbs. gnoccehtti. aged balsamico.

*Batillarda di Salumi Nostrano
house made, chef’s selection of cured meats. traditional condiments. grilled bread.

*Octopus & Calamari

*Cavatelli alla Norcina
ricotta cavatelli. house made, pork sausage. black truffles. grana padano.

Some items on the menu go fast if you get there later. We will definitely be returning to try the mussels, beef heart tartare and a few others dishes.

#Ink, #LosAngeles, #Melrose

I had very high expectations about Ink, mostly due to the yelp page. It was both mine and my friends first time there. Since they have a very small menu we wanted to get the servers opinion on what to order….he had NONE! We went out on a limb and ordered a couple of things. The beef tartare was the best thing we ate. We thought maybe we just ordered the wrong things, until we ran into a lady in the bathroom who disliked the food as well.

If you love good food I don’t recommend you wasting your time and money here.

I waited a while after Coco Laurent opened to finally try it out, and it was a very good dining experience. We sat at our table towards the end of brunch, and by the time we finished our starters, the menu switched to dinner. It was a good way to try different things.

Lamb burger, the name says it all. You have to be open to trying lamb to enjoy this dish. It is a very different taste than your traditional hamburger, but don’t let that scare you off.

The portion sizes @CocoLaurent was just right. Nothing was too small like other french places, and it wasn’t too much where you had to put your fork down half way.

This is the Fettucini au Pistou (pesto sauce). A simple dish with a lot of taste.
